Welcome to TI-3D
It has been said that "Universities invest many millions in basic research, yet few have invested in the infratructure required to put their discoveries to the test." (A. Ivinson, Science, vol. 310, Nov. 4, 2005, pg. 77)
The University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Institute for Drug and Diagnostics Development are setting out to change that. TI-3D is setting up an organization and infrastructure that will facilitate and provide coordination of the translational medical therapeutic and diagnostic research efforts between educational institutions and industrial companies. For the first time, chemists and biochemists will be collaborating closely at the institutional level with medical researchers at the forefront of medical science. In addition, they will be interfacing with the commercial sector at an early stage of research to foster the speedy development of breakthroughs into products that will help patients.

Our Vision
To create an institute with three critical and interdependent new elements:
A New Organization
New Facilities
And a New Educational Purpose
Welch Foundation Awards $3.5 Million to Fund New Institute for Drug Development
"We expect TI-3D to become a national model for close cooperation among research universities, medical schools and commercial entities in the development of important new tools to fight and diagnose disease," says College of Natural Sciences' Dean Mary Ann Rankin. "We are extremely grateful for the Welch Foundation's gift," Rankin says. "Their investment confirms that this institute is visionary. Their gift will help the people of Texas and the world by giving our researchers more opportunity for discovery."
